Deed – Pattyline Woods to Joseph Griffey-- 1852

This Indenture made the sixth day April one thousand eighteen hundred and fifty two and entered into between Miss Pattyline Woods of the first part of the County of Anderson and State of Kentucky and Joseph Griffy of the same County and State aforesaid of the second part. Witnesseth that the party of the first part has this day bargained and sold to the second party (Griffy) a tract of land supposed to be twenty eight acres for the sum of three hundred dollars, one hundred of which is paid in hand, the residue is to be paid in two equal annual payments from this date. The land is bounded as follows. Beginning at a sugar tree in R.W. Sea’s line also a corner to Samuel Saffell thence with Sea’s line westwardly to Benjamin Griffy’s corner at the mouth of a lane thence in the same direction with Griffy’s and Woods’ old line to a stone near the old school house, thence in a southwesterly direction with Hockersmith and Woods’ original line to a sugar (tree) and a fallen ash, thence in or near the same course with Gudgel’s and Woods’ original line to a stone at the mouth of Woods’ lane corner to Samuel Saffell in Gudgel’s or Woods’ line, thence in a northwesterly direction to the Beginning a straight line. The party of the first part Miss Woods for herself, her heirs, administrators or executors do forever warrant the title of the above described tract or boundary of land to the second party Griffy his heirs, administrators, executors with its appurtenances forever against the claim or claims each and every person whatsoever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
State of Kentucky Sct. I James A. McBrayer clerk of the Anderson County Court do certify that this deed from Patelina Woods to Joseph Griffey was the 7th day of April 1852 produced to me in my office by the grantor and acknowledged by the said Patelina Woods to be her act and deed. Whereupon said deed and this certificate have been duly admitted to record. Given under my hand this 10th day of June 1852. *(left margin) Transcriber’s note: Woods is the surname. In the original document whenever the possessive is used in the boundary descriptions it is spelled Woodses. I used the form Woods’ instead. |
